For Private Events
BYODJ Night started as a friend-group thing, a way to have the night you actually wanted without waiting for a venue or a DJ to make it happen.
Everyone joins on their phones, adds songs, and votes. The playlist builds itself in real time based on what the room actually wants. The birthday person gets to hear their songs. The friend with the niche taste finally gets their moment. The crowd goes from pop to country to something completely unexpected because that's what everyone voted for. That's the night.
No equipment rental. No playlist planning ahead of time. No Spotify algorithm guessing what you like. Just the people at your party making the music happen together.
One phone with a Spotify account and decent wifi. Your guests join on their own phones in any browser, no download needed. Share the party code when people arrive and you're set. You keep full control the whole time and can skip anything. Full breakdown of how it works →
How it works
Guests join on their phones, no app download required. Here's what they see once they're in.
See what's playing and vote it up or down
Search any song and add it to the queue
Vote songs up or down to shape what plays next
A live leaderboard tracks who's running the dance floor
What makes it work
The format is built around a few ideas that, taken together, give guests a reason to stay and give you a night worth repeating.
Where it started
This is where BYODJ Night started. Abigail built it for her friend group because she wanted to hear the music her crowd actually wanted, not whatever happened to be playing. The first version ran in a living room. That energy is exactly what makes it work for private parties.
Full breakdown of how it works →Works well for
- Birthdays where the guest of honor wants their playlist, not someone else's
- Backyard summer parties where everyone has a strong opinion about what plays
- Friend group celebrations: housewarmings, going-away parties, just-because nights
- Any gathering where the right music is the difference between a good night and a great one
What it costs
