Nashville doesn't have enough places to dance.

So we built one. BYODJ Night is a crowd-owned setlist app where everyone gets to be their own DJ. Show up, add your songs, and vote for what you want to hear. Your music. Your dance floor. Your night.

The night Nashville's been missing

Nashville has a thousand places to listen to music. It doesn't have enough venues to play yours. BYODJ Night allows you to queue songs, vote for your favorites, and play the music you want to dance to. Every song played was requested from somebody standing right next to you, and every vote is somebody saying yes, this, play this. When the song you've been waiting to hear all week actually gets played, because you and forty strangers all wanted it at the same time. Made for the friends who are only there for one specific song and will not stop talking to you about it until it plays.

How it works

BYODJ all happens right in your browser, no app required. You join the party, queue up the songs you want to hear, vote for the ones you're excited about, and downvote the ones you're not. Then get back to the dance floor and wait for your songs to play.

Built for every body on the dance floor

BYODJ Night started with a queer woman in Nashville who kept going to great venues but not hearing the weird music she wanted to dance to. Our commitment is to be an inclusive and welcoming space for queer communities, BIPOC spaces, and only work with venues and organizations who align with that mission.

Who it's for

Bars, community events, private parties — the setup is the same, the night is always different.

Started in Nashville.
Staying in Nashville.

This started in a living room with a friend group who just wanted to dance to their own music. We're growing it into venues across the city, for every crowd that deserves a night out on their terms.

Common Questions

What is BYODJ Night?

A crowd-controlled playlist event. Guests join on their phones, add songs to a shared queue, and vote on what plays next. The songs with the most votes rise to the top. The host keeps full control the whole time and can skip, pause, or reset at any point.

How is this different from a regular DJ night?

A DJ curates the night based on their taste and read of the room. At a BYODJ Night, the whole room curates together. Everyone has a vote, the playlist shifts in real time, and what rises to the top is what people in the room actually wanted. It's a different format for a different type of night.

Do I need to download an app?

No download. Guests open byodj.app in any mobile browser, enter the party code, and they're in.

Do I need to provide sound equipment?

BYODJ Night works best at venues that already have a sound system we can plug into. For nonprofits hosting at an existing venue, that's usually already covered. If you're still figuring out the space, we can help you think through what you need. Reach out and we'll sort it out together.

Is BYODJ Night only in Nashville right now?

We're Nashville-based and focused on Nashville for now. Outside Nashville and interested? Reach out and we'll see what makes sense.

Is BYODJ Night a safe and inclusive space?

BYODJ Night was built by and for queer communities, BIPOC spaces, and anyone who's felt out of place at a regular night out. Women-owned, queer-built, and intentional about every space we run events in. Safe space policy →
